Violinist Nurit Bar-Josef was appointed Concertmaster of the National Symphony Orchestra in September, 2001, after three seasons as Assistant Concertmaster of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. She joined that orchestra in 1998, after holding the position of Assistant Principal Second Violin with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra for the 1997-1998 season. She received her bachelor’s degree from the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with Aaron Rosand, and was the recipient of the Fritz Kreisler Award for Violin upon graduation. She continued her studies at The Juilliard School with Robert Mann. Ms. Bar-Josef won first prize in several competitions, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra Concerto Competition, the Wellesley Symphony, Corpus Christi Young Artists Competition, and the Juilliard Concerto Competition. In 1997, she made her New York debut with the Juilliard Orchestra in Avery Fisher Hall. Most recently, Ms. Bar-Josef performed Saint-Saens’ Violin Concerto #3 with the National Symphony. Other solo appearances include several concerto appearances with the National Symphony, performances with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Saint Louis Symphony, Boston Pops, Wellesley Symphony, International Symphony Orchestra (in Israel), the Corpus Christi Symphony, and the Boston Classical Orchestra. A participant in the Taos and Tanglewood Music Center Festivals, Ms. Bar-Josef was Concertmaster of the Music Center Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa, and won the Most Outstanding Performer Award. She has also served as Concertmaster of the International Symphony Orchestra, Haddonfield Symphony, the Curtis Symphony, and the Juilliard Symphony. An active chamber musician, Ms. Bar-Josef is a member of the Dryden String Quartet, as well as the Kennedy Center Chamber Players. She has performed piano quartets with André Previn at his Rising Stars Festival in Caramoor, and diverse repertoire at Tanglewood Music Center, Taos Music Festival, Garth Newel (Virginia), Portland Chamber Music Festival, and other numerous performances in Philadelphia, New York City, Israel, and Boston.
